Why is Wednesday of Holy Week referred to as “Spy Wednesday”? Because in today’s readings at Holy Mass we learn that Judas has handed over Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.
Then one of the Twelve, the man called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priestsand said, ‘What are you prepared to give me if I hand him over to you?’ They paid him thirty silver pieces, and from then onwards he began to look for an opportunity to betray him. (Matthew 26:14-16)
The day conjures uneasy feelings since we may recall when we have been betrayed by a trusted friend or loved one. Or worst still perhaps we remember when we have betrayed our Sweet Jesus through our sins. Today, let’s pray for forgiveness for the times we have shunned Our Lord.
