Pentecost marks the end of the Easter Season. For fifty days, the Paschal or Easter Candle has been in the sanctuary lit during Holy Mass and other liturgies. The Paschal Candle represents the Risen Christ. Last Sunday, the Risen Christ ascended into Heaven to be reunited with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. On Pentecost, God sends the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, the Holy Spirit to bless us with His Seven Gifts.
On this day, the beautiful hymn, Veni Creator Spiritu, Veni Creator Spiritu or Come Holy Ghost, will be sung or chanted. Read here for the words to this beautiful hymn in Latin and English.
