September has always been one of my favorite months. This month marks the start of a new season. Many of you will feel cooler weather and see the burst of Autumn’s color spectrum in trees’ leaves. Unfortunately, here in Austin, Texas, we, usually, have limited exposure to these autumnal treats. But, we are grateful that the 100+ days have ended.
Month Dedication
Holy Mother Church dedicates September to Our Lady of Sorrows. Let’s meditate on Our Lady’s Seven Sorrows, not to be confused with Five Sorrowful Mystery of the Holy Rosary. The Seven Sorrows are:
- The Prophecy of Simeon (Luke 2:34-35) or the Circumcision of Christ
- The Flight into Egypt (Matthew 2:13)
- The loss of the boy Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:43-45)
- Our Lady meets Jesus on the way to Calvary.
- Jesus dies on the cross. (John 19:25)
- Our Lady receives the body of Jesus in her arms. (Matthew 27:57-59)
- The body of Jesus is placed in the tomb. (John 19:40-42)
A common devotion for Catholics is pray daily one Our Father and seven Hail Marys for each each Sorrow.
Virgin most sorrowful, pray for us.
