Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels

Today is the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels a day that has always been a consoling day for me. Just to think that God loves us so much that He has assigned a Guardian Angel at the moment of our conception. An angel to be with us every day of our lives. He guards us, protects us and leads us. This loving gesture should instill a deep and unquestioning confidence in God’s love for us, His children.

Our Guardian Angel’s ultimate goal is to bring us back to God. I recently read in a homily by Rev. Robert Altier that our Guardian Angel will be with us until we enter into eternity. He said:

That means that if we wind up in Purgatory, our angel is going to be with us. Obviously, if we choose the wrong direction at the moment of judgment, our angel goes back into Heaven, and we would go the other way.

Those are jolting thoughts that highlight the seriousness of our final judgment. We either pass through Heaven’s gate with our angel or cross the dark threshold of damnation alone for eternal separation from God and all that is good and holy.

Let us heed Father’s advice and learn to pray to our Guardian Angels every day. When we feel alone or frightened, we need to talk to our Guardian Angel and ask him to guide us and give us comfort. In those dark moments of our lives, let us ask our Guardian Angel to pray for us. And, ask him to take our prayerful supplications to God’s altar in Heaven.
