A special birthday thought

Today is my  mother’s birthday. Although God called her home 16 months ago, she continues to live in my heart. Rather than being too, too, too sad, I want to celebrate that she, like her mother, chose life. Both accepted God’s gifts of faith, children and family. Two years ago I wrote this post and I remember her being so thrilled that I had mentioned her. What a difference 2 years can make — enough said about that.

As you might imagine, I’ve been anticipating today. But, this past year I have learned that I must have “a plan” for milestone days like birthdays and holidays. So to honor Mom, I purchased a beautiful birthday bouquet (yellow rose was her favorite flower).   And, once again, my brother and I did what we have done each year on our birthdays — attend Holy Mass. As I thought about today’s post, I found this poem that captures the sentiments that many of us can embrace.
Thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday, and days before that too.
I think of you in silence, I often speak your name.
All I have are memories and a picture in a frame.
Your memory is a keepsake, with which I’ll never part.
God has you in His keeping, I have you in my heart.
Happy Birthday, Mama!
